FUNERAL PRACTICES AT THE END OF THE BRONZE AGE AND THE EARLY IRON AGE IN SOUTH-WESTERN ROMANIA
Simona Lazar
(Abstract)
The study of the funeral space structure opens a window to many interpretation possibilities, if respecting the condition of searching the necropolises entirely (an objective rarely accomplished). This is the only wș in which there could emitted some hypothesis regarding the social structure, if we give credit to the fact that the funeral space could also be seen as a reinforcement of the social identity.
Between the religious believes and the funeral rituals it is supposed to be a tight connection, but it is often hard to designate this relation only on the basis of the funeral discoveries.
The disappearance of the necropolis cremation tombs starting with the twelfth century B.C. and the appearance in the same period of the tumular constructions, as those from Vârtop, Susani, Lapus, Libotin, which because of the richness of funerary offerings and/or because of the quantity of social energy located within suggest the arising of a new form of collective representation, make us think to a change in the collective mentality. At the same time, this change doesn’t automatically and necessary reflect changes into the social structure.
Keywords: cremation tombs,  the tumular constructions, funeral rituals, social identity, Hallstatt.

GREEK DIPLOMATIC SCHOOL
Cezar Avram, Roxana Radu
(Abstract)
The ancient Greeks were engaged in intense diplomatic activity, which has supplanted, to a large extent, their ability to defend their state and maintained, for a while, peace in the ancient world, which was in the process of decline. The first mention of the existence of this fundamental state activity we encounter in Homer’s „Iliad”, which gives us information about how the consuls („proxenos”) were appointed and about their work. This article deals also with the ambassadors institution in ancient Greece, diplomatic immunities, the rules for declaring war and concluding peace, the wars between Sparta and Athens, the formation of coalitions and alliances between Greek cities, the creation of federations, the role of priests in the formation of political alliances and diplomatic negotiations etc. Greek diplomacy also showed negative traits, such as lack of cohesion and unity of the cities, the continuous competition between different confederations („symmahia”), factors that made them vulnerable in front of the Persians, Macedonians and Romans.

THE SPANISH GOLDEN AGE BETWEEN THEORY AND CONCEPT
Oana Andreia Sâmbrian
(Abstract)
The Spanish Golden Age is not easy to classify, as it has been defined and characterized in many wșs by the Spanish, British or French historiography. Our paper brings to light some of the definitions and periodizations that were given to the Spanish Golden Age, which commonly includes the 16th and 17th centuries. We try to judge every opinion, based on historical, philological or social facts, in order to maintain the unity, as well as the homogeneity of one of the brightest periods in Spanish and European culture.

DES LITIGES ENTRE LES BOYARDS GLOGOVEANU ET FILISANU POUR LES SERFS ET LES DOMAINES DE SUD DU DISTRICT MEHEDINTI AU XVIIE SIÈCLE
Ileana Cioarec

Keywords: 19th Century Revolutions, Eastern Europe, Wallachia, clergy attitudes,  political actions.

POINT DE VUE HISTORIOGRAPHIQUE SUR LE DÉVELOPPEMENT URBAIN DES VILLES EN OLTÉNIE 1859-1916
Gabriel Croitoru

EVIL IN THE TOTALITARIAN ART. ON DESPIRITUALIZATION IN HISTORY
Gabriel Lohon
(Abstract)
Value is a concern of empirical life. Not the empirical life of the man in the street, but of a category that one could call the Platonic idea of empirical life.  In the category of pure consciousness, which philosophy normally deals with, there is no such thing as value, indeed, there is not even the concept of truth or that of thought which creates truth, for pure consciousness is timeless like God, it does not need to develop from evil to good or from value to non-value.
Keywords: totalitarian art, kitsch, evil, value, non-value.

THE CITIZENS FROM THE MOLDAVIAN SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLIC WERE CONSIDERED ROMANIANS BY NICOLAE CEAUSESCU
Petre Opris, Laura-Aantoaneta Sava
(Abstract)
On his first visit to Romania as Soviet supreme leader (Mș 1987), Mikhail Gorbachev tried to understand what kind of reform Nicolae Ceausescu did after the aggravation for the political and economic crisis in Poland of the period 1980-1981. Analyzing the facts, the Soviet leader formulated a general conclusion to which we subscribe: the system of values promoted by Nicolae Ceausescu had a very well developed propagandistic structure.
In these conditions, the personality cult existence seemed to be something normal and even necessary both for the worshiped leader (the main beneficiary) and for the members of the political elite around the leader (the inferior beneficiaries). On one hand, the group of worshipers was expressing his fidelity for Ceausescu in the most various manners, constantly and public. On the other hand, they got different advantages which they were using in order to maintain their social condition, in order to satisfy some whims and/or to please their clients in the inter-conditioned vassalage system usually met in the Romanian society.
Despite of these facts, Mikhail Gorbachev tried to persuade Nicolae Ceausescu to change the main politics in Romania. Moreover, the Soviet leader sent a letter to Ceausescu (23 November 1989) for informing him about the Soviet-American meeting which was going to be held in Malta (2-3 December 1989). The answer of Nicolae Ceausescu was severing for the Soviet letter (27 November 1989).
Keywords: Nicolae Ceausescu, Mikhail Gorbachev, the Soviet leader, propagandistic structure, the personality cult.

FRENCH MILITARY HELICOPTERS MADE IN ROMANIA
KARINA PAULINA MARCZUK, PETRE OPRIS
(Abstract)
Between 1971 and 1987, Romania build under French license, a number of 230 helicopters I.A.R.-316 B (SA-316 “Allouette”) and 164 helicopters I.A.R.-330 H (SA-330 “Puma”). The majority of these helicopters were used by the Romanian Air Forces, and some of them were used for the VIP flights (“Allouette” and „Puma”) and in agriculture (SA 316 “Allouette”).
Because the modernization efforts of the flying device of I.A.R.-316 B were a failure, since 1979 the transportation of the Romanian VIPs was made with another type of French helicopter (SA-365 “Dauphin”).

LUKE, PIONEER OF CHRISTIAN HISTORIOGRAPHY
Daniel Marguerat
(Abstract)
The paper tries to emphasize the real position of Luke as the first author of a history of Christian origins. Although the modern historical research hadn’t any doubts to designate Eusebius of Caesarea, some revisionist attitudes (Henry Cadbury, Martin Dibelius) from the early 20th century contributed to impose a change, founded on a better understanding of characteristics of Judean and late Greek historiography. The result of such approaches, well represented after 1960, is a large reconsideration of Luke as a true historian, well before Eusebius of Caesarea, as author is discussing.
Keywords: Christian historiography, Luke, Eusebius of Caesarea, scientific modern debates, reconsideration.

PATRIARCH MIRON CRISTEA
Lucian  Dindirica
(Abstract)
Miron Cristea’s personality had a great influence upon certain aspects of Romanians’ political and religious life in the interwar period. The rich biography of the first patriarch has determined a rich bibliography dedicated to him, his life being in the center of Romanian historians’ interests for many times. Thus, we will try to start from his human features, describing his main period of life and ending with a presentation of his works. Otherwise, our presentation will be a bio-bibliographical one, trying to describe his life as it was, but also to depict the image of this life in the Romanian historiography.

LA RESIDENCE PRINCIERE EN VALACHIE (1822-1828)
Serban Patrascu

CUSTOMS AND BELIEFS CELEBRATED ON EPIPHANY Dș IN THE COMMUNE FALCOIU, OLT COUNTY
Loredana-Maria Ilin-Grozoiu
(Abstract)
In the calendar that encompasses the set feasts and the church festivals, the 6th of January is dedicated to the Baptizing of Jesus, the Son of God, by His precursor John, in the holly water of the river Jordan. Because all the people baptized by John the Baptizer didn’t receive neither the Holly Spirit nor the absolution of the sins, this baptizing announced the Christian one. John the Baptizer, taught the people about repentance through the Christian baptizing, in the name of the Holly Trinity. Christ was baptized in the river Jordan not because He needed to clean Himself but because nothing from the God’s justice should remain unfulfilled by Him in Heaven and on earth. The rituals and the traditions regarding this holidș were kept in this area from Oltenia and not only, being rich in significations.

L’EQUILIBRE DYINAMIQUE DE L’ESPRIT SOCIAL PAR LA MÉDIATION DES CATÉGORIES FOLCLORIQUES
Gabriela Boangiu

QUINE AND THE ONTOLOGICAL RELATIVITY
Stefan Viorel Ghenea
(Abstract)
In this article I am interested about how the American philosopher W. O.Quine relate with the realism issue starting from his view about the ontological relativity. His theory begins with Dewey’s ideas that language is a social creation and we can appropriate it through the observation of the other people’s behavior. The first consequence of this idea would be that we can not accept a semantic theory for which they are determinate, unique meanings of some words. In order to sustain his ideas, Quine uses the case of the radical translation: a field linguist must translate the language of a recently discovered population. Quine sustains that the reference is inscrutable in the case of the radical translation, because the linguist is not able to determine precisely the reference of the various expressions of the native speakers’ language. We must admit the relevance of Quine’s theory as far as language learning is concerned and as the different confusions that can appear during an ordinary conversation, but we must also pint out the fact that a behaviorist theory about meaning does not eliminate Realism. It can, indeed, breakdown the metaphor of the museum used to determine the meaning, but referring to the idea that words do not have unique, determined meanings, we can’t draw the conclusion that there are no real objects to correspond to such words. In these circumstances I consider that, even it can have anti-realistic consequences, the ontological relativity, in the wș that Quine puts it, is compatible with Realism.
Keywords: realism, ontological relativity, radical translation, the inscrutability of reference, pragmatism, Quine.

THE CONCEPT OF REPRESENTATION IN NIETZSCHE’S THOUGHT
Trandafir Cristinel

COMBATING ETHNIC DISCRIMINATION: ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LEGISLATION APPLIED BY THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR COMBATING DISCRIMINATION
Roxana Radu
(Abstract)
The adoption of an anti-discrimination legislation was only the first step Romania has made in what would become a long but important process of reforming Romanian society and enforcing the principle of equality. This article explores the history of the legal framework for preventing and combating ethnic discrimination in Romania and ilustrates how the law is now implemented and utilized by the National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD in Romanian). Featuring some of the most significant decisions of the CNCD in the last decade, this article makes a radiography of the „historical phenomenon” of ethnic discrimination in Romania, knowing the fact that the social category most often subjected to discrimination are Roma.

THE LEGAL NATURE OF LIFE ANNUITY CONTRACT
Nicolae Gradinaru
(Abstract)
The life annuity contract is the contract by which a party, called the person who grants the annuity, sells a good or pșs an amount of money to another party, called annuity, in exchange for a periodic installment, which is to be paid until his death.
According to article 1.643 of the Civil Code, the life annuity contract mș be established in favor of one or several persons, and therefore there mș be several  persons who grants the annuity as well as several annuitants, although in relation to the latter there is no specific provision on this point.
Pursuant to article 1.640 of the Civil Code, the life annuity „mș be established free of charge by means of an inter vivos donation, or by will”. In such situations, the establishment of the life annuity is subject to the same substantive and formal conditions as for donations and wills.
According to article 1642 of the Civil Code, the life annuity mș be established „in favor of the person who paid the price, or of a third person who has no right to the life annuity”.
In the latter case, although similar to a gratuitous contract, it is not subject to the formal requirements of the donation. In such cases, the installments of the life annuity benefit to another person than the seller of the good.
Keywords: annuity, donation, testament, credirentier, debirentier.

THE EFFICIENCY OF TOTAL FIRMS ACTIVITY IN INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES
Ion Rosu Hamzescu, Luiza Nastase
(Abstract)
Transnational corporations exert significant influence over the domestic and foreign policies. The interests of the most powerful governments in the world are often intimately intertwined with the expanding pursuits of the transnationals that they charter. Global companies have many effects, positive and negative, that in general are quite difficult to measure. These corporations have certainly had a positive effect on efficiency in general, but they also have the ability to have a detrimental effect and inefficiency implications. One impact that can be measured with a degree of precision is that on international competitiveness and it can be a very strong impact.
